Computer

Reliability is the key factor to buying a computer. Cheap motherboards, skimpy memory and poor setup are just a few factors that effect reliability.

Here is an interesting thought on how to buy a reliable computer:

  • Have the computer built locally.
  • Have all the software you will use loaded onto the machine.
  • Run the computer in a locked room for a week.
  • Pay for the computer if it is healthy and updated at the end of the week.
  • If it is not healthy and updated, charge the computer builder for the depreciation of your cameras and other equipment.

I doubt if you could find someone to sign a contract like the aforementioned unless they were allowed to use Linux as the operating system. (With Linux, updates would not even come into play.)
